Layout aids: Befitting its pedigree as a full-featured vector drawing program, DIAGRAM 12 offers a full set of alignment, distribution, “make the same” and other arrangement tools. Why? Because it’s new target audience is much different than the old one. I think CS Odessa needs to rethink this aspect of the program for future versions. While this may work really well for a vector graphics program, it would overwhelm the average business person. In addition to the tabbed toolbar across the top of the workspace, it is surrounded by panels on the other three sides as well, each one bristling with options. CONCEPTDRAW MINDMAP 8 REVIEW SOFTWAREThe user interface: When you create a new diagram file in DIAGRAM 12, you are greeted by the busiest user interface I’ve ever seen in a diagramming software program. In this review, we will take a look at the most significant new features of DIAGRAM 12, and how they can help you become a more effective visual thinker at work. But that’s not all – the developer has included several other surprising innovations that make this program the world’s most powerful, versatile diagramming tool, in my opinion. This is actually a very timely move by the Ukrainian software developer. On the other hand, with the rise of Lean, kaizen and other enterprise improvement methodologies, more knowledge workers need to be able to draw process diagrams and workflows. This move shouldn’t be that surprising: most business people don’t need the ability to draw vector illustrations. But it also contains a little surprise: It’s namesake vector drawing program, ConceptDraw, has been converted into a diagramming tool, ConceptDraw DIAGRAM 12. Nodes can also include hyperlinks, so you can link a node to a project-related document hosted on a corporate intranet, or to a website on the subject.ĬonceptDraw Mindmap’s powerful interface and steep price tag may prove overwhelming for casual mind-mappers, but it may well be worth the money for teams working on large-scale projects.CS Odessa recently launched ConceptDraw Office 5, which contains updated versions of its suite of office productivity tools. Other topic (node) types include Milestone, Project, Project Idea, Requirements Document, and more. CONCEPTDRAW MINDMAP 8 REVIEW UPDATEIf you choose to export your mind maps as a sequence of slides, each slide will be exported as a simple static image, which means you won’t be able to animate it with PowerPoint.ĬonceptDraw MindMap includes a special mode for brainstorming, letting you quickly build up a list of ideas for later sorting and processing.ĬonceptDraw Mindmap also has project management features: You can mark any node as a task, and then update its status and progress using the map. That said, if you do wish to create a PowerPoint presentation based on your mind map, ConceptDraw Mindmap lets you export the mind map to PowerPoint, either as a text outline or as a sequence of graphical slides. ![]() The transitions are not smoothly animated, so it doesn’t look as nice as Prezi or Impress.js, but it definitely beats PowerPoint, especially since it is so direct: You don’t have to translate your mind map for a presentation. Hit Space, and the screen will switch over to the next slide, expanding and collapsing nodes, and zooming in or out as needed. ConceptDraw Mindmap will switch to full-screen mode, showing the first slide. When it’s time to give the presentation, just hit F5. On every step along the way, you can take a snapshot of the current view, including the zoom level, the node state, and everything else. Next, you zoom and pan around the mind map, collapsing and expanding nodes in any order that makes sense for presenting the map and explaining it to your audience. Then, you switch on the Slide Navigator panel, which pops out under your mind map. ![]() It works like this: First, you create your mind map as usual. With its Ribbon interface, ConceptDraw MindMap looks like an integral part of Microsoft Office.ĬonceptDraw Mindmap’s most impressive feature is its presentation mode. This keeps the overall strategy and campaign flow in plain sight, while letting you execute it step by step. At first I thought the Twitter feature was a bit gimmicky, but then I came across a template that showed how ConceptDraw Mindmap can be used to plan out a social Twitter campaign for a product or a blog: You brainstorm the campaign and plot it out as a mind map, and then you tweet each node of the mind map when its time comes. ![]()
